Mid-Atlantic Region
...WARM TEMPERATURES EARLY THIS WEEK; STRONG COLD FRONT FOLLOWED BY COLD TEMPERATURES ON THURSDAY...
This weekend, as well as early this week (through Wednesday), very warm temperatures will occur throughout the Mid-Atlantic region, with many areas seeing highs in the 70s. Generally, the weather will be very nice, with minimal thunderstorms through Wednesday (some areas could see localized thunderstorms though).
The weather will take a very quick and sharp turn on Thursday. A cold front will move through the area on Thursday morning, bringing heavy rain and possibly thunderstorms, especially closer to the Chesapeake Bay area where the most CAPE will be present. The rain could switch over to snow and/or sleet briefly, but totals will be minimal and insignificant. The Appalachian Mountains could see a couple inches of mountain snow.
After the cold front moves through, temperatures will drop quickly, with lows below freezing possible. Cold temperatures will persist on Thursday and Friday, before a weekend warmup occurs. After next weekend, the forecast becomes highly uncertain, but there will be a chance of either warm temperatures and thunderstorms or another cold blast and possible wintry weather.

The 2026 IAD Severe Weather Tracker is now visible and will be regularly updated. It is located at www.brindleweather.com/severe. Note that the SPC will be making significant changes to their forecasts, which will affect SPC forecast related data collection on the 2026 version of the tracker. As a result, expect a few changes to the 2026 IAD Severe Weather Tracker this year.
All long term severe weather graphs (visible on both the 2025 and 2026 severe trackers) have been updated with data from 2025 collected for IAD. A new heat alert graph was also added.Β
